| Regularly test the latches on your storm doors and adjust them as needed. Your latches are operating properly if your storm door is drawn tightly and securely into its frame. The latch should hold the door secure even against a gusty wind. | |
| Add a wind chain to your storm door if it does not already have one. Wind chains help prevent doors from blowing off their hinges. Be sure to set the chain so the door cannot open more than 90 degrees. | |
| Adjust the tension of your door-closer so it will close the door securely but without slamming. Most closers have tension adjustment screws at one end of the cylinder. Closers can also be used to hold doors open, but care should be used when you use a closer to hold a door open. If a brisk wind hits a door that has been locked in an open position, the wind can bend the frame or the closing rod or otherwise damage the door. |
